Tilly and Harry Madison
60th Anniversary
Harry and Tilly Madison of
Southfield celebrated their 60th
wedding anniversary at a recent
dinner party given by their chil-
dren, David and Phyllis Madison
of Southfield and Marshall and
Susan Madison of Kalamazoo.
The senior Madisons have 13
grandchildren and six great-
grandchildren.
The Madisons are founding
members of Temple Israel. Madi-
son was elected national com-
mander of the Jewish War Vete-
rans in 1953 and was the first
president of the shrine to the
Jewish war dead in Washington.
He was active in building the
first local JWV memorial home.
In 1979, Madison received the
JWV Gold Medal of Merit award
at a special program at which
many Michigan government offi-
cials, Jewish leaders and national
JWV leaders paid tribute to him.
In 1983, he was honored by the
JWV Department of Michigan
"for 50 years of dedicated service."
A wing of the JWV Memorial
Home in Southfield was named in
his honor.
Madison served on the Jewish
Welfare Federation board for 36
consecutive years and has been
active in efforts on behalf of the
Allied Jewish Campaign for more
than 50 years.
He is a life member and past
master of Craftsman Lodge of the
Masons, a life member of the De-
troit Consistory and the Moslem
Shrine.
He is a past president of the
Hannah Schloss Old Timers and
is involved in the activities of
many other organizations.
