Lectures for seniors

A new Friday lecture series will
begin at 1 p.m. Jan. 4 in the as-
sembly hall of the Jimmy Prentis
Morris Branch of the Jewish
Community Center.
Geared for senior adults, the
first lecture of the five-part series
on "Aging in the '80s — A Positive
Growth Experience" will deal
with nutrition. Blood pressure
will be taken.
The program is sponsored by
Tri-County Home Health Care,
Inc. Nurse and gerontologist Judy
Hinman will be the speaker.
All seniors are invited free of
charge. For information, call Judy
Samson, 967-4030.

The Center will continue its
program entitled, "Seniors Help-
ing Seniors." Retired individuals
with special skills who enjoy
working with other senior adults
are needed.

Among the skills being sought
are music, acting, carpentry and
history. To volunteer, call Ms.
Samson.
Both programs are supported
by a grant from Area Agency on
Aging, I-B", which states "no one
shall be excluded-- from participa-
tion in this program because of
race, age, sex, national origin or
handicap."

Group slates programs

The Jewish Community Cen-
ter's Active Adults program will
present Stanley Clamage as its
guest speaker following a noon
luncheon on Monday. The lunch-

Art show set
at the Center

The Jewish Community Center
of Metropolitan Detroit will hold
an invitational art show from Jan.
13 to 17 in its Hamburger Exhibi-
tion Hall, located in the Maple
Drake building.
The show will feature works in
calligraphy, ceramics, painting,
printmaking, sculpture and
weaving.
Among the artists displaying
their works are: Doreen Bortman,
Linda Zalla, Sandra Robbins,
Janet Kelman, Paula Bass, Janet
Rubenstein, Joyce Schwartz, Paul
Kay-Zaks, Carol Knoll, Sylvia
Perle, Deanna Sperka, Steven
Tapper, Jackie Woolf, Suzanne
Velick, Joel Zaretsky.

Classes include senior fitness,
yoga, water exercises, arts and
crafts, ballroom dancing. Mon-
day's program will include a New
Year's celebration. Members who

Potpourri will feature Rabbi
Elimelech Silberberg of Cong.
Bais Chabad of West Bloomfield
who will speak on "Jewish His-
tory through the Eyes of the Tal-
mud."

Wins degree

Rabbi Allan M. Blustein, chap-
lain at the Sinai Hospital of De-
troit, has received a doctoral de-
gree in pastoral counseling from
the graduate school of the Hebrew
Theological College/Jewish Uni-
versity of America in Skokie, Ill.
