SEPT. 19, 1952 . . . "Most popu-
lar story to come out of South
Haven this year is of an irate
guest at one of the resort town's
hotels who grabbed the telephone
and hollered into it, 'Are you the
desk clerk at this dilapidated
joint?' . . . The clerk answered,
`Yes, I am. What's eating you?' .. .
`That,' said the guest coldly, 'is
what I'd like to know."'
Jan. 7, 1966 . . . "Daughter
Linda had been promised a tele-
phone for her 14th birthday by
parents Alice and Merle Goodman
. . . Shortly before its installation,
there were elaborate plans afoot
among her friends . . . They
stashed away pickles, sardines
and crackers in her room . . . And
they brought hair curlers, playing
cards and knitting to occupy those
who would not be on the phone."

in from school with three excited

March 22, 1968 . . . "Anne

Kruger, was staying with grand-
mother Ida Wolfe in Southfield on

pencil and paper so she could
write, and her grandmother said,

Shabbos.' . . . 'But grandma,' re-
plied Anne, 'I don't want to write
on Shabbos. I want to write on

her fifth straight year in "The
Nutcracker Ballet" with Dance
Detroit under the direction of
Iacob Lascu and the Detroit Sym-
phony Orchestra. Performances
are through Monday and will take
place at Ford Auditorium.
