Yet you did not fire. Why?" .. . "Well, judge," said Mr. Goldstein, when I pointed my pistol at him he says, 'How much you want for that gun?' "I ask you, judge, how could I kill a man when he was talking business?" That so many people remember the words of a wise rabbi who noted members of his congrega- tion having a custom of touching fingers to lips, then touching the Torah . . . "Kiss the Torah," he advised, "not with your fingers, but with your mouth. On the other hand, when it comes to charity, be more free with the hands and less with your mouth." RESOLUTIONS ... To exercise more patience in some restaurants . . . Not be like the customer who had been wait- ing a long time for his order .. Finally the waitperson ap- proached and said, Your fish will be coming in a minute or two now, sir" . . . and the customer asking, "What bait are you using?" Or going into a restaurant where the waitperson says, "We have everything on the menu to- day, sir" . . . and not replying, "So I see. How about a clean one." Or saying, "By the way, did that fellow who took our order leave any family?" Or patience being rewarded after ever so long in a local eatery when our meal finally arrived .. . and after asking for coffee, exer- cising restraint in not saying to the waitress, "And while you're away, would you mind dropping me a postal card every now and then?" .• e . 31 a • .• •.
