Israel fighting housing slump
Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israel's hous-
ing industry, in its worst slump
since the 1966-1967 recession, is
mounting a campaign to attract
Jews and others abroad in to buy-
ing homes in Israel.
About 25 of the country's
largesi; construction companies
plan to open joint sales offices in
New York and London next
spring. At the offices, potential
buyers of apartments and houses

Gibraltar Jews
Gibraltar (ZINS) — The 600
Jews living in Gibraltar only con-
stitute about 2 percent of the
population of the British colony
located in southern Spain, but
they play a prominent role in the
colony's government, according to
James Levi, president of the
Jewish community.
Both Mayor Abraham Serfaty
and Chief Minister Sir Joshua
Hassan are Jews. In addition,
Levi said, three of the eight mem-
bers of the Gibraltar cabinet are
Jewish.
