More electricity
for Israel

Beersheva (ZINS) — Israel
should be able to double its output
of electric energy by the year
2000, according to Prof. Aharon
Ruey.
Prof. Ruey, speaking at the an-
nual meeting of the Israeli Asso-
ciation of Chemical Engineers,
made his estimate based entirely
on domestic sources of fuel, ex-
plaining that in the Hulah region
alone, Israel has approximately
500 million tons of lignite (a coal-
like substance) which can be
burned to produce electric energy.
The professor also indicated a
greater reliance on solar energy
rather than electricity in the near
future for the Jewish state.
