up. Like a slice of lemon peel
twisted in it?" . . . Snapped
Gleason, "If I want a lemonade,
I'll ask for it."
An elderly couple, visiting
Florida, paused at a Miami street
corner where a soap-box orator
was expounding to a sparse hand-
ful of passers-buy on the dread ef-
fects of the Demon Rum .. .
"While liquor ruins your health,"
he thundered, who lives in the lap
of luxury? Who owns the biggest
condo, the most expensive auto-
mobile? Whose wife wears the
most priceless jewelry? It's the sa-
loon keeper, my friends — pros-
pering from your misery" .. .
Some days later the elderly couple
ran into the orator again, and
thanked him for putting them on
the right track . . . "I'm deeply
gratified," he beamed, "that I've
persuaded you both to stop drink-
ing." ... "We didn't mean that at
all," said the elderly gent. "You
see, we came down here looking
for a good real estate investment.
After hearing your talk, we
bought a saloon."
"No more hard liquor for me,"
vowed a reformed book salesman.
"The last time I succumbed I was
so plastered I lost my balance tak-
ing off my pants and fell head over
heels." . . . "What's so terrible
about that?" asked his mate. "Lots
of people have done that".. .
"What?" said the reformed char-
acter. "In the Detroit-Windsor
Tunnel?"
"I have finally persuaded my
husband not to drink when he's
the host," boasted a watchful wife.
"I made him realize that once he's
have few himself, he starts
bringing out the good stuff!"
