when it permits thousands of
Jews to leave as well as when it
closes the gates to emigration and
allows only a handful to leave.
In a related development, Chief
Rabbi Rene Sirat of France has
received a formal invitation to
visit the Soviet Union and plans
to go next spring — if he gets a
visa. The invitation, which said it
was extended by "rabbis in the
Soviet Union," was delivered to
Sirat by a Soviet diplomat Sun-
day.

Rome (JTA) — Acting on the
premise that ignorance begets
anti-Semitism, a bi-lingual picto-
rial history of Jewish contribu-
tions to Roman civilization from
161 BCE to the present, originally
published in 1970, has been re-
issued and distributed to school
and public librares in the city of
Rome, the province and the sur-
rounding region.
The book, Jewish Rome-Roma
Ebraica by Henrik Geller, was
selected by the Rome Jewish
community to serve as an educa-
tional tool.

Los Angeles .(JTA) — The
California Library Association
(CLA) has- revoked its decision to
provide a forum at its state-wide
convention next month for
right-wing publisher David
McCalden - who claims the
Holocaust was a hoax.
McCalden is associated with
anti-Semitic and white suprema-
cist groups and with the
California-based Institue for His-
torical Review. The chief occupa-
tion of the latter is to publish re-
visionist histories that whitewash
Nazi war crimes.

to address UOJCA
New York — Benjamin
Netanyahu, Israel's new ambas-
sador to the United Nations, will
address the national convention
of the Union of Orthodox Jewish
