"TAKE TWO"
VIDEO TAPING

Taking in the sights at Neve Zedek during the first cultural tour
sponsored by the Israel Information and Resource Center and the
Jewish Community Center, are from left: Shelly Jackier, Shirley
Altman, Adele Silver, Helen Babbin and Thelma Weinstock.

Workshops of artisans and
craftsmen, stages for dance and
auditoriums for musical pre-
sentations were among the stops
on the first cultural arts tour
sponsored by the Israel Informa-
tion and Resource Center and the
Jewish Community Center.
Conducted last month to coin-
cide with Succot and Simchat To-
rah, the tour was led by Shelly
Komer Jackier, director of the
IIRC, and Adele Silver, cultural
arts director of the Jewish Center.
Detroiters who joined them on
the tour were: Mr. and Mrs. David
Mondry, Dr. and Mrs. Joe Epel,
Mr. and Mrs. Fred Babbin, Mr.
and Mrs. Sol Colton, Dr. and Mrs.
Bryce Alpern, Mr. and Mrs.
Maurice Friedman, Mr. and Mrs.
Sylvan Rapaport, Ala Lehman,
Shirley Altman, Manya Salinger,
Ruth West, Mildred Wayburn,
Nancy Cain, Miriam Meckler and
Thelma Weinstock.
Visits were made to the Golds-
tein Tapestry Workshop, Green-
wurzl Gallery and special ar-
rangements were made to enter
the Burstyn Graphic Center, or-
dinarily closed to the public.
The Israel Museum in

Jerusalem and the Tel Aviv Art
Museum also were included on
the tour. A walking tour of the Ein
Hod Artists' Village and a recep-
tion at the Goldman Gallery in
Haifa also were on the agenda.
Tour members paid a visit to
Neve Zedek, one of Tel Aviv's old-
est neighborhoods, which is being
restored as an historical district.
Dance was another focus of the
tour, and members saw the efforts
of the Kibbutz Dance Company,
the Inbal Dance company and the
filming of the Shalom '84 Israeli
Folkdance Troupe.
Archeological dig sites were
also points of interest on the tour.
A concert by the Israeli
Philharmonic Orchestra was a
source of entertainment. The
group also was treated to a private
concert by Izaak Tavior.
The itinerary also included a
fashion show, visits to the homes
of notables, walking tours and
meetings with Detroiters who
made aliyah.
A second cultural arts tour is
planned for October 1985. For in-
formation, call the IIRC, 661-
1948; or the Center cultural arts
department, 661-1000, ext. 250.
