Healing Heart: Antidotes to Pain
and Helplessness.
Cousins' address was the sixth
annual Esther B. Mellen Memo-
rial Lecture, part of a series made
possible by a donation to Sinai's
Medical Endowment Fund from
Dr. Hyman Mellen, former chief
of staff of the hospital, in memory
of his wife.
Nathan I. Gordin was honored
with a plaque for his gift which
made possible the hospital's
ambulatory care center in West
Bloomfield, the Nathan I. and
Betty Goldin Health Care Center,
dedicated at the meeting.
Honored with a plaque were
long-time Sinai supporters
Jerome Soble, Kenneth Soble, and
the late Dr. Allen Soble, who was
an oncologist on Sinai's staff. Jr
gratitude for the Sobles' gift, the
hospital has named its depart-
ment of medicine the Harold and
Goldie Soble and Family Depart-
ment of Medicine.
Awards were presented to four
officers of the hospital who com-
pleted their terms of office. Bronze
medallions went to Jerome
Frank, David Miro, Erwin Simon
and to Milton Miller.
Mrs. Ruth Wolf accepted a
bronze medallion in memory of
Maxwell Katzen, who served as
president of the Shapero School of
Nursing from 1981 until his death
in 1984.
Among the honorees were Dr.
John Helfrick, Dr. Arnold Axel-
rod and Dr. Howard Jacobs.
Re-elected to the board of trus-
tees for three-year terms were
Richard Cooper, Merle Harris,
Bill Hunter, Leonard Kasle,
Thomas Klein, Lester Morris,
Leslie Rose, D. Larry Sherman,
Richard Sloan, Robert Steinberg,
Joel Tauber, Anna Diggs Taylor,
Br uce Th,1 and Harvey Willens.
