emotions and cultivate the posit-

ment, said Norman Cousins at the
32nd annual meeting of Sinai
Hospital of Detroit, held Nov. 12
at the Renaissance Club.
Cousins, long-time editor of The
Saturday Review, is currently a
faculty member of the department

of psychiatry and bio-behavioral
sciences of the School of Medicine
at the University of California,
Los Angeles. He emphasized the
importance of patients' attitudes
toward their illnesses, stressing
the healing power of positive emo-
tions and urging health care pro-
viders to consider the effect of
emotions, both positive- and nega-
tive, on their patients.
