The series, already in progress, will continue on Thursday and on Dec. 13. The guest lecturer will be Dr. Anita Norich, assistant professor at the University of Michigan. The lec- tures are held at 10:30 a.m. Dr. Norich received her A.B. degree from Barnard and her M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Columbia University. She also was a student of Yiddish litera- ture at the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research. She has held positions at New York Univer- sity, University of Pennsylvania, YIVO and Columbia University. Her reviews and essays have ap- peared in a wide variety of Jewish journals. She has been involved with Rseponse and Lilith maga- zines. The series will consider the his- torical reality of shtetl and city life and the literary representa- tion of that reality. Dr. Norich will explore different models for reading the literary works of Sholem Aleichem, Mendele Mocher Seforim, Isaac Bashevis Singer, Henry Roth, Bernard Malamud and Saul Bellow. Lunch will follow the closing session on Dec. 13. The programs will be held in the youth lounge at Cong. Beth Achim. There is a fee.
