Alan Jay Kaufman, senior
partner of Kaufman and Payton,
has been appointed vice dean of
the Detroit Consular Corps.
Vice dean is the highest honor-
ary position in the Detroit Consu-
lar Corps.
Kaufman has been a member of
the Detroit Consular Corps since
1975. The position of vice consul is
recognized by the United States
government as an official dip-
lomatic designation.
Kaufman is involved in several
civic organizations in Detroit and
is an active lecturer and partici-
pant in the legal community. He
currently serves as chairman of
the Detroit Bar Association's in-
ternational law committee and
has served as chairman of the
State Bar of Michigan's Latin
American Bar Activities Section.
He is a member of the American
Bar Association committees on
International Insurance Law, In-
ternational Financial Transac-
tions and Life Insurance Law, and
on the State Bar of Michigan's
Corporation, Finance and Busi-
ness Law Section, and tis insur-
ance law committee.
He is a member of the Court
Appointed Mediation Panels;
American Arbitration Appointed
Panels; and the Michigan Self-
Insurers' Association.

He received a bachelor's degree
in finance and insurance from
Michigan State University in
1970, then attended the Univer-
sity of Notre Dame law School and
the London School of Economics.
He was admitted to the State Bar
of Michigan in 1973.
Among his communal affilia-
tions, Kaufman counts the
Lawyers and Real Estate Di-
visions of the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign, the Holocaust Memorial

Seminar on divorce
and remarriage at
Birmingham Temple

The Birmingham Temple's
School for Human Relations will
sponsor a two-part seminar on
"Divorce and Remarriage: Help-
ing Kids Cope" 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 on
7:30 p.m. Dec. 13.
The first session will focus on
the break-up of the family while
the second session will cover the
implications involved. in self-
parenting. There is a charge for
the seminar.
