Esther Shapiro

Esther Shapiro, director of the
consumers affairs department for
the city of Detroit, will be the
guest speaker at the Adat Shalom
Sisterhood's -general meeing on
Monday at 1 p.m. Dessert will be
served. There is a charge. Guests
are welcome. For reservations,
call the synagogue office, 851-
5100.
Prior to her appointment, Shap-
iro spent eight years as consumer
specialist for the Michigan Credit
Union League. She prepared con-
sumer education programs for the
members, and also created school
programs and community work-
shops on consumerism. Her col-
umn for the league magazine was
carried by a number of state
newspapers.
She is past president of the Con-
sumer Federation of America, a

founder and past president of the
Consumer Alliance of Michigan,
and is presently vice president of
the National Consumers League.
She is alsO an active member of
the National Association of Con-
sumer Agency Administrators.
She was appointed by two prev-
ious Detroit mayors to consumer
advisory councils and has served
on advisory boards to the FDA
and a number of other state, fed-
eral and business agencies.
Shapiro broadcasts a daily con-
sumer bulletin on WWJ radio as
well as weekly newscasts for other
Detroit radio stations and local
television talk shows. She has lec-
tured at many Michigan univer-
sities, and conducted seminars for
teachers of consumer education.
Shapiro is frequently called upon
to discuss consumer relations
with business managers.

Orthodox women
will present comedy

The Women's Orthodox League
announces that "Castles in the
Air," an original musical produc-
tion, will be presented on Dec. 2, 7
p.m. in the Groves High School
auditorium.
The musical comedy was writ-
ten by Miral Simcha, Sandi Ros-
kind, and Nechama Bakst and
portrays the adventures of a teen-
age girl who travels to Russia and
becomes the target of the K.G.B.
The cast includes eight children
and 22 women, and the production
features eight original songs. The
