jogging ritual . . . Morrie and Be-
rtha have been married 47 years
. . . and moved from Detroit 30
years ago . . . He's still active with
B'nai B'rith, on the council out
west . . . and past president of the
Hollywood Wilshire Lodge, com-
posed of all former Detroiters .. .
Hal Brody is president now .. .
Morrie says heart bypass has
made him a new man.

BUSINESSES DON'T HAVE
to get a stipend anymore for hav-
ing coin-operated phones at their
locales . . . They can now take the
whole shebang ... Liberty Phone
Co. on Greenfield and in South-
field puts out the phones for ven-
dors, restaurants, service sta-
tions, lounges, stores, etc. . . . with
owners keeping all the profit
themselves . . . Michigan becomes
only the sixth state so far . . . Boy,
what promotions companies and
restaurants can now do with their
own pay phones!
CELEBRATION OF 50th an-
niversary of Sadie and Morton
Dermer was at Mitch's II .. .
dinner party by their children,
Judy and Bernie Tarnow and
Shari and Arthur Dermer . . . Lots
of folks had many laughs . . . and
danced the night to Doug Jacobs
and his Red Garter Band.
BARRY MANILOW will be in
Detroit less than 24 hours .. .
with 25 of his staff .. . specifically
to stage benefit for B'nai B'rith .. .
It'll be Dec. 5 at Westin Hotel,
when localites Bernard M.
Tauber, chairman of the board of
K-Mart Corp. and David Rand-
leman, chairman of the board of
the Handelman Co., will be co-
recipients of the BB International
Great American Traditions
Award.
B'nai B'rith Youth Services
agencies will be direct be-
neficiaries of the dinner.
LORETTA LORION, bossgal
at Loretta Lorion in Bloomfield
Plaza on Telegraph, has begun
her search again for teddy bears of
all ages, sizes and shapes . . . Nov.
26 to Dec. 5, Loretta's having her
second annual Teddy for Tots
benefit for Children's Hospital .. .
She donates a new bear to the
hospital for each teddy entered in
the contest . . . Last year, more
than 130 bears were donated .. .
Judging is on best costume, most
adorable, most preppy, most out-
rageous, most old-fashioned, most
glamorous, most cuddly, most
romantic, most sophisticated and
most original . . . Loretta's teddy
bear winners with their ribbons
and medals will be on display til
Jan. 1.

Central moved out in 1926 — to
Linwood. I believe a junior college
took over the building — called
The College of the City of Detroit.
I'm checking it out with Burton
Historical Collection at Detroit
Public Library. I don't remember
Detroit having a school named
College High."

That's what she thought . . . But

couldn't stay away from the biz
. . . She is the new manager of
