This series will consider the historical reality of shtetl and city life and the
literary representation of that reality. Dr. Norich will explore different models
for reading the literary works of Sholem Aleichem, Mendele Mocher Seforim,
Isaac Bashevis Singer, Henry Roth, Bernard Molomud and Saul Bellow.

Adat Shalom Synagogue will
host the first city-wide Jewish
Youth Jamboree Weekend on
Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.
Co-sponsored by Adat Shalom
Synagogue, United Synagogue of
America, Union of American He-
brew Congregations, B'nai B'righ
Youth Organizations and the
Hillel Foundations at Wayne
State University, Michigan State
University and the University of
Michigan, and the Jewish Com-
munity Council of Metropolitan
Detroit, the weekend will feature
Rabbi Marshall Meyer, a motivat-
ing force for the vitalization of
Latin American Jewry.
Rabbi Meyer founded both a
Camp Ramah and a youth move-
ment in Argentina, as well as a
day school, a rabbinical seminary
apd a system of religious educa-
tion.
The jamboree will begin with
services and an Oneg Shabbat on
Nov. 30 at 8 p.m. Members of
USY, MSTY, BBYO and the
Hillel Foundations will hear
Rabbi Meyer's challenge for
Jewish identity. All Jewish young
people are invited to participate.
There is no charge.
On Dec. 1 at 9:45 a.m., area
youth will meet with Rabbi Meyer
with Dr. Anita Norich
