Ramat Gan, Israel — Impres-
sive ceremonies marked the inau-
guration of the Yiddish teacher
training department at Bar-Ilan
University, introduced under the
sponsorship of Detroiters Sarah
and Moshe Friedman. It also
marked the formal announce-
ment of the Israel government-
approved recognition of Yiddish
studies as college credits. This re-
presented reversal of whatever
discrimination may have hitherto
been evidenced against Yiddish in
the Hebrew-speaking state of Is-
rael.
