In a related development, the
First World conference on virus
diseases and mental health,
which met in Montreal last week,
was marred by the absence of
Soviet epidemiologist Dr. Lev
Goldfarb.
Soviet authorities have refused
Dr. Goldfarb permission to emi-
grate for the past five years.
It also was learned that perhaps
the most unique ballot cast last
week in the American president-
ial election was by a Moscow
Jewish refusenik, Abe Stolar.
He confirmed that he recorded
his vote at the American Embassy
in the Russian capital in a phone
call with friends in Detroit.
According to the Student
Struggle for Soviet Jewry, (SSSJ),
Stolar grew up in Chicago and
was graduated from high school
there. He was brought to the
USSR in 1931 by his communist
parents. In 1937, his father disap-
peared in Stalin's purges.
Stolar fought in the war and
worked for 20 years as a trans-
lator. In 1975, he, his wife Gita
and son Mikhail received exit
visas to emigrate to Israel. As
they were about to board the
plane, their visas were cancelled,
and they remain today in limbo in
Moscow.
In Los Angeles, Nobel laureate
Andrea Sakharov and his wife
Yelena Bonner were honored at
the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
Chef Jeff Bloom will come into
your home and prepare Spectacular
Creations for you and your guests.
