Detroiter of Pepper Pike, Ohio,
died Oct. 29. Survived by her hus-
band, Marvin; a son, Richard; and
two daughters, Julie and Susan.
Interment Cleveland, Ohio.

FAYE FORMAN COUSENS,
65, died Nov. 5. She leaves a son,
Michael of Florida; two daugh-
ters, Myrna of Chicago, Ill., and
Gail Band; a brother, Max For-
man of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.;
three sisters, Mrs. David (Sadie)
Novak, Mrs. Jack (Betty) Evintz
of Royal Palm Beach and Mrs.
Joseph (Dorothy) Sommers of
Tiburon, Calif.; six grandchildren

and one great-grandchild.

SOPHIE ELLENBOGEN, 73,
died Nov. 1. She leaves her hus-
band, Max; a son, Lawrence; two
brothers, David Goodstein and
Fred Goodstein of San Rafael,
Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Herman
(Faye) Frumin; and two grand-
sons.

SARAH GENDELMAN, 79,
died Nov. 3. She leaves a son, Al-
vin; a daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Ar-
lene) Spero; a brother, Carl
Eisenberg; a sister, Mrs. Sidney
(Belle) Miller; five grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren.

JOSEPH GREEN, 83, died Nov.
4. He leaves two sisters, Mrs.
Eugene (Alice) Sussholz of Los
Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. Philip
(Zelma) Reich of Prague, Czechos-
lovakia; nieces and nephews.

MAX HARLEY, 83, died Nov. 4.
He leaves a sister, Mrs. William
(Betty) ,Stearns.

ROSE KOTIN, 75, died Nov. 4.
She leaves her husband, Irving;
two brothers, George Saperstein
and Ben Saperstein; and a sister,
Mrs. Morris (Ann) Levine.

JDC official Samuel Haber dies

New York (JTA) — Samuel
Haber, honorary executive vice
president of the American Jewish
i Joint Distribution Committee,
which he served for 37 years, died
in Akron, Ohio, Nov. 3 at age 81.
i Mr. Haber joined the JDC staff
in 1947 as director for Germany
where he developed programs for
more than 200,000 displaced per-
sons. They were instrumental in
the rescue, rehabilitation and
eventual emigration, of tens of
thousands of Holocaust survivors.
In 1954, Mr. Haber was sent to
Morocco to organize aid for the

Dr. Seymour L. Fligman, an op-
tometrist with offices in Roches-
ter, died Nov. 7 at age 51.
Born in New York, Dr. Fligman
attended New York University
and was a 1955 graduate of the
Illinois College of Optometry. He
was a member of the American
and Michigan Optometric Asso-
ciations, a fellow of the College of
Developmental Vision and active
with the Optometric Institute and
Clinic of Detroit. Dr. Fligman was
a member of the Livonia Jewish
Congregation.
He leaves his wife, Sally; three
children, Jacqueline Fligman,
Andrew Stromer and Cynthia K.
Fischel; his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Louis (Anna) Fligman of Delray
Beach, Fla.; a brother, Dr. Arthur;
and three grandchildren. Services
10 a.m. today at Ira Kaufman
Chapel.

who broke with
Arafat is dead

London — Abu Nidal, who
broke with Palestine Liberation
Organization leader Yassir
Arafat to form his own terrorist
i i: organization, is reported dead.
Reports of the death from Lon-
don's*Channel 4 did not say when
he died, nor could the death be
confirmed.
Abu Nidal, born Sabri el-
Banna, was expelled from Al
Fatah, the main PLO faction, in
1972. He formed a secret organ-
ization, the Fatah Revolutionary
Council.
The council was accused of as-
sassinations and terrorist attacks
aimed at Israelis and more mod-
erate Palestinians, the New York
Times reported.

died Nov. 6. Survived by a sister,

RUTH SCHWARTZ, 80, died
Nov. 5. She leaves her husband,
Jack; a son, Herbert; a daughter,
Mrs. Bernard (Jean) Geller; five
grandchildren and one great-
grandchild.

SHARI LORINCZI, 81, of West
Bloomfield, died Nov. 5. Survived
by a son, Gerald M. Lorence; and
two grandsons.

LOUIS PAPO, 77, of Oak Park,
died Nov. 6. Survived by his wife,
Mary; a son, Sander; a daughter,
Mrs. Paul (Sharon) Gatien; five
brothers, Alvin Papo of Califor-
nia, Sam Papo, Jack Papo of Santa
Monica, Calif., Mordy Papo and
Burke Williams of Bay City; a sis-
ter, Mrs. Maurice (Regina)
Polinsky; and seven grand-
children.

Samuel Haber
240,000-member Jewish commu-
nity. In 1957, when after a lapse of
seven years the JDC was permit-
ted to resume its activities in Po-
land, he was asked to develop a"
welfare program for the im-
poverished remnant of that coun-
try's Jewish community while
continuing his tasks in Morocco.
Mr. Haber was assigned in 1958
to the European headquarters of
the JDC in Geneva as assistant
director general. He was trans-
ferred to the, JDC's New York
headquarters in 1964 and in 1967
was elected executive vice chair-
man. He served in that capacity
until 1976.
In recent years he served as na-
tional chairman of the Hebrew
University Associates Program
and as a trustee of the Interfaith
Hunger Appeal which he helped
establish in 1978.
Mr. Haber was the brother of
William Haber, long-time leader
of the World ORT Union.

MARGARET SELBY, 90, of
Royal Oak, died Nov. 6. Survived
by two daughters, Mrs. Bennie
(Doris) Zak and Mrs. Marietta
Chicorel; and three grand-
children.

WOLF SWINKIN, 94, died Nov.
1. He leaves two sons, Harry and
Herbert of Toronto, Ont.; a daugh-
ter, Mrs. Sam (Ruth) Kossack; six
grandchildren and three great-
grandchildren.

ABRAHAM PETUCH, 67, of
Oak Park, died Nov. 5. Survived
by his wife, Mollie; a son, Marvin;
and a sister, Mrs. David (Sonia)
Mendell of Culver City, Calif.

EUGENE RABINOWITZ, 53,
former Detroiter of San Francisco,
Calif., died Oct. 26. He leaves two

Nathan Bienstock

Los Angeles — Nathan
Bienstock, an agent and manager
for newspaper, radio and TV jour-
nalists, died Nov. 2 at age 86.
The brother of veteran jour-
nalist Victor Bienstock, Nathan
Bienstock was an insurance
salesman during the Depression,
but as World War II approached
he helped journalists manage
their affairs and became one of the
first to negotiate contracts for
those in radio and TV.
He formed an agency in 1965,
and among the notables he repre-
sented were David Halberstam,
Dan Rather and Daniel Schorr.
An art collector, Mr. Bienstock in-
cluded artist Alexander Calder
among his clients.
