Mr. and Mrs. Sol Lessman
Congressman Tom Lantos (D-
Calif.) will be the guest speaker at
the 70th annual banquet for the
Beth Yehudah Schools at 7 p.m.
on Nov. 18 at the Fairlane Manor.
Cocktails will be served at 6. The
dinner will be the occasion to
honor Mr. and Mrs. Sol Lessman.
Congressman Lantos has re-
ceived acclaim as the only Jewish
Holocaust survivor to have served
in the United States Congress.
At the dinner, Lessman will re-
ceive the 15th annual Golden
Torah Award "for his efforts on
behalf of the Beth Yehudah
Scholarship Fund." The
Lessmans have been active for
many years in the Detroit area
and in national and Israel
charities.

Beth Yehudah Schools, which
encompass Yeshivath Beth
Yehudah for Boys, the Sally Allan
Alexander Beth Jacob School for
Girls and the Yeshivah Gedolah
of Greater Detroit, is the oldest
and largest Hebrew day school
system in Michigan. The schools,
which educate close to 600 stu-
dents, provide accredited pro-
grams for Hebrew and secular
education for boys and girls from
kindergarten through 12th grade.
The Yeshivah Gedolah depart-
ment includes a rabbinical college
which is accredited by the Michi-
gan Department of Education.
According to Rabbi Norman
Kahn, executive vice president,
"The annual fund-raising dinner
is the primary source of support
for the yeshivah."
Dinner co-chairmen are Ivan
Bloch, David Holtzman, Spencer
Partrich, Mickey Shapiro and I.
William Sherr.

Some of Lessman's community
activities include: member of
Prime Minister's Club of Israel
-Bonds, Michigan board member
for Israel Bonds, a founder of
American Technion Society, a
founder of Bar-Ilan University
and national board member, past
president of Young Israel of
Oak-Woods and dedicated the
Beth Medrash there. He also is a
founder of Shaare Zedek Hospital
where he has dedicated a room in
memory of their parents.
Mrs. Lessman is a founder, past
president, current treasurer, past
honoree and life member of the
Batya Chapter of Amit Women.
She is on the national board of
Amit Women and a life member of
American Women for Bar-Ilan
University. She has dedicated a

The next meeting of Sinai Hos-
pital's Parkinson's Disease Sup-
port Group take place at 1 p.m.
Tuesday in the East Conference
Room of Sinai Hospital.
Dr. David Timm of Sinai's de-
partment of pharmacy, will pre-
sent a brief introductory talk, and
then he and fellow pharmacists
Janice Green and Dr. Edobor
Okosun, will discuss the effects of
different drugs and of drug in-
teraction.

Emanu-El social hall, Monday
and Tuesday, 5-10 p.m. Appoin-
