In between each activity par-
ticipants are advised to walk or
jog in order to build cardiovascu-
lar strength, while specific fitness
events strengthen muscles and
improve flexibility. Participants
also will learn how to use their
pulse rates to guide their pro-
gress.
The course was designed by
sports medical experts at the
Stanford University Heart Dis-
ease Prevention Center and the
Arizona Heart Institute, and will
be used by summer campers aged
11 to 15, senior adult campers at
the Butzel Conference Center, the
Butzel Health Spas, and rental
groups throughout the year.

The Milton Maddin Memorial
Physical Fitness Course, pat-
terned after the Wells Fargo
Gamefield Jogging Course, has
just been completed at Camp
Maas.
This course, just short of two
miles, weaves around Phipps
Lake and joins Camp Maas with
the Butzel Conference Center.
There are 20 creative fitness
events, called "games" positioned
along the route, and they include
warm up exercises, conditioning
techniques and cool-down activi-
ties. The course is organized
around a competitive game for
which points can be kept by each
participant.
