GOOD WAITRESS DEPT.
. . . Greetis Morales and Donna
Strobel in mornings and noons .. .
at the Clock, Southfield and 10
Mile Rd. . . . very experienced and
knowledgeable, with efficiency to
go with their very pleasant per-
sonalities . . . New Clock owner is
Johnny Kanakis.
IT WAS GLAMORAMA time
by Helen Rosenberg Cancer
Fighters, City of Hope, at Adat
Shalom Synagogue . . . with
boutiques galore set up in the
lobby.
Then about 490 women went in
for a fine lunch by caterer Jeffrey
Rosenberg . . . and another mas-
terful fashion show produced by
Leah Marks . . . on the heels of her
very successful Michigan Opera
Theater showing of Albert Nipon
garments at Leah's Music Hall
"Showtime."
Eighteen models, two dancers
and Shalom, the beautiful Afghan
dog owned by Liz Mogill, put on a
sterling show . . . Bonnie Suder's
choreography was excellent .. .
and Jim Nelson's music selections
and lighting outstanding . . . As in
"Showtime." Tamara Studio de
Beaute's makeup, and hair styl-
ing by Mariomax were fitting de-
lights in complimenting the
beauties.
Styles and fashions began in
the large audience . . . where
many of the attendees were
garbed in elegant afternoon wear.
From the stage onto a large
T-shaped runway gingerly came
the two male and female dancers
wearing half masks in setting the
tone for those models who fol-
lowed with fast-paced swirling to
peppery music.
Again it was more than just
your plain, ordinary fashion ex-
hibition . . . Leah's trademark of
making hers in quick-moving
show business entertainment was
evident.
The models in Leotards Etc.
garb danced onstage and down the
runway . . . One of them, pretty
Dianne Craig, did hers with a pil-
low under sytlish aerobics wear to
show that even expectant mothers
exercise in very colorful style.
Laine Wine, co-owner with
Sally Bradley of More Woman,
was pressed into action modeling
fashionable outfits for the large
lassies . . . when one of their mod-
els didn't arrive from Ohio.
Sneak Preview was a show
stealer with its absolutely elegant
presentations . . . showing ultra
styles in suits, dresses, with
matching coats . . . tans, beiges,
blues, purples, black, reds, plaids

ficent balls . . . to concerts that
each year seemingly get better.
Mack Pitt, his clarinet and 12-
piece orchestra, opened the fes-
tivities with an overture of Hava
Nagela and Jewish medleys .. .
Max Sosin, co-chairman with Dr.
Lester Zeff, was master of cere-
monies . . . Emma Lazarus
Schaver was still in wonderful
voice to go along with her very
fine personage in leading the an-
thems of United States and Israel.
David Syme's nimbly deft fin-
gers gave a very feelingful ap-
proach to his display of magnifi-
cent rhythmic enjoyment . . . The
large audience listened with
much intensity at his masterful
piano performance of such classics
as Mozart's Turkish March,
Rondo Capriccio by Mendelssohn
and Hungarian Rhapsody No. 12
by Franz Liszt . . . Before his final
number, David did a wonderful
job on Julius Chajes'Israeli Dance
. . . His clarity of tones at the
Steinway were positively bril-
liant . . . and a compliment to the
composers.
David, son of Temple Israel's
Rabbi Robert Syme and Sonia,
has lived in New York the past
five years . . . previously Califor-
nia . . . and is gaining interna-
tional renown.
David was a hard act to follow
. . . and Claire Barry did her best
to comply . . . She wore a stunning
silk pant outfit and certainly
didn't look or act her years .. .
with a strong voice and active
stage presentation.
As a team, Claire and her late
sister, Myrna, were a smash to-
gether . . . Jerry Graff, her accom-
panist today, began with the
Barry sisters 20 years ago.
Mike Burstyn followed the in-
termission with a strong perform-
ance . . . He is a great entertainer
. . . interspersing songs with jokes
("Chai means life. I dedicate this
next song to my Uncle Irving, who
is doing chai in an Israeli prison.")
' . . . Mike was super, doing a bit
from the show Barnum in which
he played the lead on Braodway
. . . juggling and opening with
There's' A- Sucker Born Every
Minute . . . and Join The Circus
. . . His sturdy voice and masterful
stage presence brought out Mike's
talents as a great entertainer.
In the lobby before the Balfour
Celebration concert, Milford
Singer carried a carton filled with
various candies . . . and was asked
if they were for sale.
Mack Pitt and his orchestra did
a super backup job for Claire
Barry and Mike Burstyn . . .
Norman Cottler and vest always
sartorially elegant . . . Thanks to
Harry Parks for the small Teamo
cigar . . . Edith Levin minus 25
pounds because its just a teensy
weensy bit of halvah now.
Each year, Lil and Sid Silver-
man have their afterglow follow-
ing the Balfour Celebration .. .
Clubhouse at Providence Towers
this year was a bevy of food for
about 100 or more people, all the
entertainers, and so many who
worked to make this another suc-
cess . . . Even people I haven't
seen in umpteen years . . . like
Florence (Eisner) and Mike Mil-
ler, married 39 years and living in
Vancouver, B.C.
