The Council of Jewish Federa- tions is the association of 200 fed- erations, welfare funds and com- munity councils which serve nearly 800 communities embrac- ing a Jewish population of more than 5.7 million in the United States and Canada. Hechtman Apts. open house slated Lillian and Sam Hechtman and the board of directors of the Jewish Federation Apartments, Inc., have issued an invitation to the community to an open house on Nov. 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. to formally inaugurate the opening of its newest housing facility, Lil- lian and Samuel Hechtman Fed- eration Apartments, 6700 W. Maple, West Bloomfield. The 103-unit apartment build- ing was built under a U.S. De- partment of Housing and Urban Development construction grant and rental subsidy program, supplemented by the support of the Hechtmans. All units have one bedroom, kitchen, living room and bath, in- dividual air conditioning and heating, appliances, carpeting and drapes. Residents provide their own furniture. Each apart- ment is equipped with an emer- gency bell. The new facility was designed by Nicholas Pastor and Associ- ates, Architects. Interior design and furnishing selection were provided by Schnee and Schnee. Kosher dinners are served five nights per week in the dining rbom. Residents plan activities to meet their needs. The Jewish Community Center, adjacent to the apartments, has a full pro- gram for active adults. Transpor- tation to shopping is provided through a grant from the Na- tional Council of Jewish Women. The building is located on the Maple-Drake Jewish Community Campus and is connected to the recently completed Blumberg Plaza under the sponsorship of the Jewish Home for Aged. Hechtman Federation Apartments residents will be able to participate in ac- tivities planned in that facility. Persons qualifying for the Jewish Federation Apartments in either West Bloomfield or Oak Park must be 62 years of age, able to live independently, and meet government income limitations. There is one central waiting list and all applicants have a choice of either location. Rent depends on an applicant's income and there- fore is the same, regardless of lo- cation.
