THE REPUBLICAN RESPONSE

THE DEMOCRATIC RESPONSE

The 1984 Republican Party
Convention Platform:

The 1984 Democratic Party
Convention Platform:

"The Republican Party reaffirms its-support--
of the pluralism and freedom that have been
part and parcel of this great country. In doing
so it repudiates and completely disassociates
itself from people, organizations,
publications, and entities which promulgate
the practice of any form of bigotry, - racism,
anti-Semitism, or religious intolerance."

Speeches at the Democratic
National Convention July 19, 1984:

... in the party of Lincoln, there is no
room for intolerance and, not even a small
corner for anti-Semitism or bigotry of any
kind."

"Discrimination based on race, religion, sex

or age will never be tolerated by this
President nor this Vice President. And
furthermore, we condemn the vicious anti-
Semitism of Louis Farrakhan and the ugly
bigotry of the Ku Klux Klan."

Would Hubert Humphrey have remained SILENT while his party platform was
approved at San Francisco without a single word condemning anti-Semitism?

This is what Congressman
George Crockett (D-Detroit) said
in the House Foreign Affairs sub-
committee in adamantly opposing
Res. 352 to move the U.S. Em-
bassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to
Jerusalem: "Israel is the only
country in the world whose capi-
tal is established on foreign soil
. . . Jerusalem is in the West Bank
. . . the only part which is Israel is
that approved under the 1947
U.N. Resolution . . . Israel is in
violation of international law . . ."
Shame on Crockett!
_
In 1979, Rev. Jesse Jackson
said in Detroit that he was fight-
ing for the right to "release
Jerusalem from (Israel's) captiv-
ity." Crockett is his disciple.
Let us also remember what Bob
Torricelli (D-N.J.) said in rebut-
tal: "West Jerusalem has always
been part of the state and capital
of Israel . ." and the "rest of
Jerusalem was won (from invad-
ing Jordan) with Israeli blood .. .
Jerusalem never was and. never
will be a part of any other state."
Kol Hakavod to Torricelli!

vies anti-Semitic overtones in the
suggestion.
He may have severe differences
of political and social philsophy
with Rep. Wolpe whom he seeks to
replace with another, but to qual-
ify on religious grounds is con-
trary to fundamental American
ideals and justice. It violates the
spirit of the U.S. Constitution
Rep. Siljander is sworn to uphold.
Yes, the implication of anti-
Semitism is there in view of the
° fact that the Congressman's mes-
sage was addressed to Christian
ministers and stressed the reli-
gious rather than the political dif-
ferences of the man he is seeking
to depose.
The injection of such an ele-
ment into American politics
whenever it is, and by whomever
it is, is a shameful disregard of
what we, as Americans, are all
about and which sets us apart
from those who practice bigotry as
a political yardstick.
