LOCAL NEWS Bargman series hosts Reinharz Prof. Jehuda Reinharz will de- liver the second lecture in the Midrasha's 29th annual Bargman Lecture Series at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Sigmund and Sophie Rohlik Building of the United Hebrew Schools. The focus of this year's series is "The Making of the Modern Jew." Dr. Reinharz's topic will be "The Battle of Ideologies in Eastern and Western Europe." Reinharz is Richard Koret Pro- fessor of Modern Jewish History and director of the Tauber Insti- tute for the Study of European Jewry at Brandeis University. Prior to his appointment at Brandeis he was a professor of Jewish history at the University of Michigan, where he was the chairman of the program in Judaic studies. He is the author of numerous articles and monographs in the field of modern Jewish history with a particular emphasis on German Jewish history and the history of Zionism. Among his books are: Fatherland or Prom- ised Land? The Dilemma of the German Jew, 1833-1914, The Jew in the Modern World. His latest book is Israel in the Middle East, 1948-1983 (co-edited with Itamar Jehuda Reinharz Rabinovich). He has just com- pleted the first volume of a biog- raphy of Chaim Weizmann which will be published in 1985 by Ox- ford University Press. Prof. Reinharz is a member of the editorial board of a number of journals, a fellow of the Leo Baeck Institute and a member of the In- ternational Council of Yad Vas- hem. The public is invited.
