PREPARATION Terror underground defendants begin a hunger strike Jerusalem (JTA) —Three of the nearly two dozen defendants on trial as alleged members of a Jewish terrorist underground Sunday declared a hunger strike in their prison cells, protesting "pressures by the general security services." The three, Dan Beeri, and Barak and Shaul Neer, brothers, protested their treat- ment as "security prisoners." Beeri, 39, a rabbi who converted from Christianity, is originally from France. He faces charges on involvement in the 1980 attack against West Bank mayors and the plan to blow up the Moslem holy shrines on the Temple Mount. Barak Neer, 25, of Jerusalem is linked to the Temple Mount plot, and to the gun and grenade attack on the Islamic College in Hebron. His brother, Shaul, is charged in connection with the attack on the Islamic College and the plan to blow up a fleet of Arab-owned buses in East Jerusalem. Meanwhile, some 3,000 resi- dents of Jerusalem shouted down MK Meir Kahane Saturday night when, along with 50 supporters, the leader of the ultra-nationalist Kach Party, held a demonstration in downtown Jerusalem against a successful Israeli motion picture, Behind the Walls, which deals with Jewish-Arab relations inside an Israeli prison. Histadrut rejects COL subsidy cut Jerusalem (JTA) — Histadrut, Israel's powerful labor federation, last week rejected the unity gov- ernment's proposal for a package agreement developed in the gov- ernment's strenuous efforts to bring Israel's raging inflation under control. The rejection came at the close of more than six hours of negotiations last Wednesday involving representatives of the- Histadrut, the government and employers. The rejected plan called for a one-third cut in cost-of-living in- crements for the next four months, with workers compen- sated by a five percent cut in their income taxes and a price freeze for the next six weeks. During that period, the government would preserve its right to impose new taxes and more subsidy re- ductions. Meanwhile, the Histadrut's Central Committee decided last Thursday to demand a total freeze on prices, including subsidized products, wages and taxes. The committee said the Histadrut would not sign any agreement un- less the government could guarantee total control of the re- quested freeze. But observers said that even if the government agreed to the freeze, the govern- ment lacked the personnel to con- duct effective price controls. .1 1 i• (313) 569-5320 EDUCATIONAL CENTER Naj141 , • I Ow i,••• ■ i • . But Jesse Jackson in the Mondale cabinet, almost assuredly. This will be his payoff. Since the Democratic conven- tion Jesse Jackson has been held in the background keeping a very low profile. But if Mondale wins he will emerge like a rocket and take his place in the Democratic hierarchy at the elbow of the new President. The Demo- cratic Party must be made to pay for allowing Jesse Jackson to run amuck. They must be made to pay for not passing at the convention a , resolution condemning anti-Semitism. They must be made to pay for lying to Rabbi Marvin Hier of the Simon Wiesenthal Center by promising if he and. his associates would not push for the passage of the anti-Semitism resolution during the formal convention, they would introduce and pass this resolution immediately following the convention - they never did. The Democratic Party must be taught a lesson it will never forget, because if they are not - history will repeat itself. If Ernest Hollings, John Glenn or even Walter Mondale would have called blacks "Zulus from Zulutown" they would have long ago been forced out of the race. But Jesse Jackson a candidate for the Presidency of the United States can say whatever he wants without impunity and the best answers that can be uttered are "Jesse Jackson speaks for himself" or You can't stop a person from expressing his views" or a tree country with free speech:' This Tuesday its up to you to show the Democratic party your answer. This time you must put all other issues aside, willingly or unwillingly. You must vote against the Democratic Presidential candidate. If not, his- tory may very well repeat itself and not for the better.
