NEDERLANDER IS RUNNING FOR A THIRD TERM AS A REGENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN. Nearly 200 friends and family members honored Mr. and Mrs. Joseph (Doris) Ostrow of Oak Park by attending their golden wedding anniversary celebration. . The Aug. 26 dinner-dance, held at Cong. Beth Achim was ar- ranged by the Ostrow children and their families: Maynard, Sheila, Natalie, Noni, Ivy and Oliver of California; Dr. Barry, Ann, Shayne and Sara of North Carolina; Larry, Vivian, Alex and William of New York and Eileen of California. Guests came from Alabama, California, Maryland and Montreal, Canada. Doris and Joe have been mem- bers of Cong. B'nai David for about 40 years, and for 35 years of the . Zionist Organization of America and B'rith, the Jewish Community Center, Hadassah and Auxiliary-Jewish Home for Aged. Ostrow is now retired from the hardware business. Paid for by the Nederlander for Michigan Committee, 1930 Buhl Bldg., Detroit, MI 48226 Mrs. Aileen Kleiman, chair- man of the volunteer services committee of Jewish Family Serv- ice, announces that the 16th an- nual volunteer workshop will be held- on Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. at the Jewish Family Service build- ing, 24123 Greenfield, Southfield. The theme for this year's work- shop is "There Is Life After 60." Dr. David Schwartz will address the group on the psychological ef- fects of aging. The workshop is aimed at assisting JFS volunteers in handling age-related stress in their own lives as well as in their clients' lives. Dr. Schwartz, a psychiatrist in private practice, is a graduate of the University of Western On- tario Medical School and did his psychiatric residency at Lafayette Clinic. He is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry. The JFS Volunteer Workshop is held annually to provide an opportunity for volunteer growth and to help volunteers acquire a better understanding of their tasks and hOw inter-relationships develop. Volunteers have the opportunity to exchange ideas re- lating to their work and to get to know one another. A JFS volunteer may drive a cancer patient for treatments, shop with a youngster whose widowed mother is handicapped, pick up or deliver government food stamps, assist an individual home from the hospital upon dis- charge, or visit an isolated senior shut-in. In the past year 183 volunteers have provided 12,953 hours of service to the community. There is a continuing need for volun- teers in order to be able to fill all the requests that come to the vol- unteer department.
