traying students at Brown Uni-
versity, demonstrating, demand-
ing that they be given suicide pills
in the event of a nuclear war.
They are telling us that a nu-
clear war is unwinnable, nor do
they wish to survive such a tragic
eventuality. They are telling us
that unelss world leaders come to
their senses, modern man will be-
come obsolete and those who are
unfortunate to survive a nuclear
war will inherit a cemetery.
Hopefully, many of us will heed
their call, and join in the growing
chorus of those who demand, that
all nations beat their swords into
plowshares and convert their
weapons of destruction into in-
struments of construction.
Until that time comes, we have
a task that must be accomplished.
Husbands and wives, parents and
children, must resolve that the
ark of family life has to be
strengthened.
In a world in which the atom is
split, we cannot, we dare not,
allow the family to be split. In a
world in which so many families
are dissolving, let the world learn
from our example.
Let them say, as did the non-
Jew Balaam say, when he looked
at Jewish family life: "How goodly
are thy tents, 0 Jacob, thy dwell-
ing places, 0 Israel."
