Women writers speak on variety
of topics at annual Book Fair

Women writers whose books
focus on a variety of subjects will
be featured at the 33rd annual
Jewish Book Fair Nov. 10-18 at
the main Jewish Community
Center.
At 1 p.m. Nov. 14, Gerda Klein,
whose latest book is A Passion of
Sharing: The Story of Edith
Rosenwald Stern, will deliver a
talk on "A Slice of Life: Recollec-
tions of a Writer."
Her talk is co-sponsored by
Brandeis University National
Women's Committee, Michigan
Region of Women's American
ORT and National Council of
Jewish Women.

Rita Kashner, author of To the
Tenth Generation, will speak at 10
a.m. Nov. 15 at the Book Fair. Her
talk is entitled, "Washing Dirty
Linen — Is It Harmful?" The talk
is co-sponsored by Detroit Women
of Alpha Omega and the Women's
Auxiliary to the Maimonides
Medical Society.
She has been published in -
Hadassah magazine and News-
day.
"A Past Reclaimed — A Future
Enriched" is the topic of a lecture
to be delivered at 1 p.m. Nov. 15
by Harriet Rochlin, author of
Pioneer Jews.

Mrs. Klein has a distinguished
career as an author, journalist,
historian and lecturer. Her other
books are: All But My Life and The
Blue Rose.
Mrs. Klein also writes a weekly
column for young readers in the
Sunday edition of the Buffalo
News and has numerous profiles t
her credit in the Buffalo News
Magazine. She covered the 25th
Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth and
wrote extensively on that subject.

Frances Henry

Frances Henry, author of Vic-
tims and Neighbors, will speak at
10 a.m. Nov. 14 at the Center. Her
talk, "Exploring Past and Pre-
sent," is co-sponsored by Akiva
Hebrew Day School PTA, Hillel
Day School and PTO and the
United Hebrew Schools Woman's
Auxiliary.
A native of Germany, Mrs.
Henry came to the United States
in 1939. She became an an-
thropologist, but decided to go
back to her native land to study
her roots.

A novelist and author ofSister
of Service, Mrs. Rochlin's talk is
co-sponored by American
Women for Bar-Ilan University,
Greater Detroit Council of
Pioneer Women, Young Women of
Jewish National Fund, Women's
Auxiliary-Jewish Home for Aged
and Batya Chapter of Amit
Women.
Dr. Maurice Friedman will de-
liver a talk on "The Impact of
Buber" at the Book Fair on Nov.
15 at 8 p.m.
Dr. Friedman's talk is spon-
sored by the Midrasha College of
Jewish Studies, Bargman Lecture
Series and the Jewish Commu-
nity Council of Metropolitan De-
troit.
Born in Tulsa, Okla., Dr.
Friedman was graduated magna
cum laude from Harvard Univer-
sity, earned an M.A. degree in
English at Ohio State University
and earned his doctorate in the
history of culture at the Univer-
