Israeli soldier
dies from wounds

Tel Aviv (JTA) — An IDF
soldier fatally wounded in south
Lebanon Saturday died of his
wounds Sunday, bringing the
casualty toll in Lebanon to 600
killed and nearly 5,600 wounded.
In a series of incidents in Leba-
non over the weekend, one Israeli
was killed and five others injured,.
and five terrorists were killed, one
captured and two others wounded.
In a related development, an
IDF patrol was attacked with
automatic fire five kilometers
south of Rashadiya in south
Lebanon Friday, but there were
no injuries, an army spokesman
said.
In Israel, meanwhile, officials
said that Israel was ready to talk
to the Lebanese under UNIFIL
auspices in an effort to arrange
sufficient security guarantees to
enable the IDF to withdraw from
Lebanon.

Sharon blasted

Jerusalem (JTA) — Premier
Shimon Peres' office made it clear
that Commerce Minister Ariel
Sharon's hope, expressed at "sec-
ond Hakafot" in Hebron last
week, that next year there would
be such a Hakafot in Nablus too
did not reflect government policy.
The office made it clear too, in
response to queries, that Sharon
had not "represented the govern-
ment" at the Hebron Hakafot,
which were expressly declared to
be an act of "solidarity" with the
Jewish underground members
now facing trial.
Sharon was sharply attacked by
Shinui Minister Amnon Rubins-
tein for misrepresenting the pol-
icy of the unity government. A
Labor Party Minister, Moshe
Shahal, said Sharon's remarks
about Nablus should be seen in
the sense of "Leshana Habba
Biyerushalayim" — an expres-
sion of hope and belief rather than
a proclamation of policy.

Quebec Jewish
stores get exemption

Montreal (JTA) — The Quebec
government has agreed to allow
Jewish retailers who close their
establishments on Shabbat to
open for business on Sundays,
provided they meet a number of
conditions set forth by the gov-
ernment. Current Quebec law
forbids retail establishments from
keeping Sunday hours.
The government's action, taken
following intervention by the
Canadian Jewish Congress in the
matter, applies only to businesses
where there are less than four
persons working the same shift.

Peres plans France
visit in December

Paris (JTA) = Israeli Premier
Shimon Peres will pay a two-day
visit to France Dec. 10-11 for
meetings with President Francois
Mitterrand, Premier Laurent
Fabius and other members of the
government, Israeli officials re-
ported.
