Hospital unit
on drugs, alcohol
plans open house

Botsford General Hospital will
conduct an open house for its
chemical dependency unit on
Tuesday from 3 to 7 p.m. in the
community room of Botsford's
Education and Administration
Center. The public is invited.
, The unit has been admitting
persons with alcohol and drug
; problems since Oct. 1. During the
three-five day stay, patients
undergo an intensive medical and
therapeutic program involving
careful monitoring of the with-
drawal stages, education on the
disease and motivation to con-
tinue treatment beyond hospitali-
2.-ation.
The unit is being administered
jointly by Botsford and Insight, a
Flint-based treatment agency
with similar acute care programs
at hospitals in Flint, Saginaw and
Lansing.

NJA participates
in 'Survival Line'

New Jewish Agenda will send
50 members to participate in the
"Survival LIne," a 61/2-mile
iliuman chain noon Saturday be-
'inning at the Michigan National
r-buard Artillery Armory in Oak
Park and ending at the Light
Guar_ d Armory on Detroit's east
side.
The Survival Line was or-
_-,ganized to call for a nuclear
weapons freeze, an end to military
intervention in Central America
and a reordering of U.S. spending
priorities to meet human needs
and secure jobs.
