"I still feel an emptiness
from not having him. When
he's ill, it hurts because I'm
not there to take care of him."
Even though Katan's situa-
tion has become easier to bear,
she still has empathy for non-
custodial mothers. "I hurt for
many women out there who
have the problem." She would
advise women in that position
to seek out the Mothers With-
out Custody service of SPACE.
"Women need other women.
It's been very beneficial for
me."
SPACE was scheduled to
begin three other programs
this fall: a Wednesday after-
noon widowed support group
for persons of all ages; di-
vorced and widowed drop-in
support groups for Sunday
mornings, and a men's-only
group for men who are sepa-
rated or divorced.
SPACE groups are started
when a need is seen, usually
brought to Freedman's atten-
tion by a participant in one of
the service's programs. Infor-
mation about any of the pro-
grams can be obtained by cal-
ling the SPACE offices, 258-
6606.

Paris (JTA) - Leo Hamon, a
former minister and law profes-
sor, and Marcel Bleustein-
Blanchet, the "father" of broad-
casting in France, have been
awarded the country's highest
ranking decoration: Grand Offi-
cer in the Legion of Honor.
President Francois Mitterrand
presented them with their decora-
tion during ,a ceremony at the
Elysee Palace.
