Smith, CEO and chair- man of the board of General Motors Corp., are participating in JNF's dinner honoring Michigan Governor James J. Blanchard. Blanchard will be presented with the JNF's highest honor, the Tree of Life Award, on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Cong. Shaarey Zedek. During his eight years in Con- gress, Blanchard served as chairman of the House subcom- mittee on economic stabilization authoring the Chrysler Loan Guarantee Act. He served on the House Banking, Finance and Urban Affairs Committee and the a weekend encounter with DENNIS PRAGER House Science and Technology Committee. Gov . Blanchard was appointed to the President's Commission on the Holocaust and still serves as a member of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Coun- cil. Political figures, top executives from auto, banking and utilities corporations, and community leaders are expected to attend. Others who have received the award are: President Gerald Ford, Gov. Nelson Rockefeller, The Rev. Martin Luther King and Bob Hope. The Tree of Life Award is given in recognition of outstanding community involvement and dedication to the cause of peace and the security of human life.
