Fred Grossman, President, Gallery Art Center in Southfield, was
presented an Associate Membership in Hadassah by Annette Meskin,
Co-Chairman of the successful art show held in conjunction with the
Gallery. Mr. Grossman is an ardent supporter of Hadassah.

HADASSAH TO TREAT VARIETY CLUBS CHILDREN

Variety Clubs International
and Hadassah have reached an
agreement for the Hadassah-
Hebrew University Medical Cen-
ter in Jerusalem to provide open-
heart surgery for four children
from the African-Asian area,
Bernice S. Tannenbaum, Hadas-
sah Medical Organization
Chairman, announced to the
Hadassah national convention
held last month in San Francisco.
Since 1980, through its Variety
Children's Lifeline program, over
450 children from developing
countries have been treated in
„American European hospitals.
"We are delighted to be invited
to participate," Mrs. Tannen-
baum said.
The Hadassah-Hebrew Univer-
sity Medical Center, which is the
largest medical complex for heal-
ing, teaching and research be-
. tween Rome and Tokyo, is noted
for its open-heart surgery and

pediatrics surgery units.
Since 1960, Hadassah has pro-
vided teaching and treatment to
people from Asia, Africa, the Mid-
dle East and eastern Mediterra-
nean countries.

Hadassah and Midrasha Col-
lege of Jewish Studies are plan-
ning a special daytime lecture
series entitled "Myth and Mean-
ing: New Insights into the Bible"
with Dr. Tikva Feymer-Kensky.
The Lectures will be held on Wed-
nesdays, 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on
October 24, 31 and November 7 at
the Midrasha, 21550 w. 12 Mile
Rd., Southfield. The cost of the
series is $15 which includes a
bonus lunch on Oct. 24th an-
nounced Marcia Kersch, Hadas-
sah Education Vice-President.

Precious
Legacy Lecture

Peggy Shafir, Program
Chairman, announced that Rabbi
Norman Roman will speak on his
travels in Russia at the fall "Pool"
meeting at United Hebrew
Schools, Tues., Oct. 23.

An evening program focusing
on the upcoming "Precious Le-
gacy" exhibit will be held on Sun-
day, October 21 at 7:00 p.m. at the
Midrasha (United Hebrew
Schools).
Dr. Saul Friedlander, a social
Historian, will speak on the
"Prague Jewish Community - A
Prologue to the Precious Legacy."
Dr Friedlander was born in
Prague, was hidden in Vichy,
France with a Catholic family
during the Holocaust and later
studied at Harvard, in Paris and
Geneva. He is currently the
chairman and Professor of His-
tory at Tel Aviv University.
This program is co-sponsored by
Hadassah and Midrasha. The
evening is open to Hadassah
members and their guests at no
charge.
