every year scores of foreign students come to study at the Weizmann
nstitute of Science.

.

Reservations are still being
aken for the visit of Prof. Michael
I e6, president of the Weizmann
nstitute of Science in Rehovot,
. ho will speak at the annual
Veizmann Science Forum of the
Jetroit Committee on Oct. 24 at 8
).m. at the Cranbrook Institute of
A.
icience.
Dr. Sela is an internationally
acclaimed immunologist who will
eak on many of the current
>rojects of the world-famous insti-
,ute. There are 700 research proj-
cts ongoing under the guidance
f 200 visiting scientists who are
om all over the world.
rn biology, institute resear-
hers have discovered a pioneer-
g method for the isolation and
aintienance of ovarian tissue
inside the body, thus providing
ital knowledge of the female re-
roductive cycle that has led to
levy approaches to combat steril-
ty and aid in family planning.
In physics, using sophisticated
ccelerators and nuclear detec-
tors of their own design, institute
experimental physicists have suc-
ceeded in measuring the magnetic
'properties and shapes of many
;hurt-lived excited states of
atomic nuclei. In biomedicine,
eizmann Institute researchers
ave developed several screening
hniques for identifying car-
cinogens and a test that enables
the measurement of the rear-
:angement of genetic material be-
deved to characterize the de-
velopment of cancer.
In new technology, retrieving
industrial materials that have
di:.,solved in solutions is often too
'expensive to make their reuse
'worthwhile. Weizmann research
ha- led to systems that help solve
the problem by attaching
enzymes or reactive materials to
solid porous supports, thus in-
'...reasing industrial effectiveness
and easing retrieval.
