Tel Aviv (JTA) — Two Israelis
— a soldier and a member of the
Shin Beth general security serv-
ices — were killed and another
soldier was wounded last week
when their jeep came under fire
from an ambush on the eastern
sector of the Lebanon front. Their
deaths brought the casualty toll
since the war started in Lebanon
to 597 dead and nearly 4,000 in-
jured.
The incident occurred near
Mashki village on the eastern
slope of the Bekaa valley south of .
Lakor Karoun.
The three Israelis are believed
to have been taking part in the
investigations into events and
organizations in the area.

New York — Abba Eban, the
Danish government and Eugene
M. Grant of Larchmont, N.Y.
have been named as the 1984 re-
cipients of the Synagogue Council
of America's Covenant of Peace
Award.
Eban was honored for his years
of diplomatic service, the Danish
government for its rescue of Jews
during World War II, and Grant
for his work with Jewish organ-
izations.

Washington (JTA) — A resolu-
tion urging the United States to
move its embassy in Israel from
Tel Aviv to Jerusalem was ap-
proved by voice votes in both the
Europe and Middle East and in-
ternational operations subcom-
mittees of the House Foreign Af-
fairs Committee Tuesday.
Opposition to the resolution
was expressed only by Reps.
'George Crockett (D-Mich.), Larry
Winn (R-Kan.) and Ed Zchau (R-
Calif.) The resolution is a sense of
the Senate resolution and does not
require the President's signature.
President Reagan has opposed
moving the embassy at this time.
, A spokesman for Rep. Tom Lantos
--, (D-Calif.) said that Lantos and
Rep. Benjamin Gilman (R-N.Y.)
were urging Rep. Dante Fascell
(D-Fla.), chairman of the full
committee, to have the committee
,3 act on the bill immediately.
The spokesman said it is hoped
,± that if the House acts, the Senate
Foreign Relations Committee will
also move the bill to the Senate
-floor. However, it appeared un-
likely tha Congress can approve
the resolution before it adjourns
at the end of this week.
