Blanchard to get 'Tree of Life'
at JNF tribute dinner Oct. 16

James J. Blanchard, governor
of Michigan, will be honored with
the Jewish National Fund's high-
est honor, the "Tree of Life"
Award on Oct. 16 at a dinner
dance at Cong. Shaarey Zedek.
Announcing the award, Char-
lotte Jacobson, president of JNF
of America, praised the governor's
record of support for Israel. "As a
representative in Congress and
now governor of Michigan, he
shows is concern in practical ways
that strengthens the ties between
Americans and Israelis."
During his eight years in Con-
gress, he served as chairman of
the House subcommittee on eco-
nomic stabilization authoring the
Chrysler Loan Guarantee Act.
This led to the revitalization of
one of America's largest corpora-
tions. He served on the House
Banking, Finance and Urban Af-
fairs Committee and the House
Science and Technology Commit-
tee.
Gov. Blanchard was appointed
to the President's Commission on
the Holocaust and still serves as a
member of the U.S. Holocaust
Memorial Council.

reclamation and site develop-
ment. Since 1901, the JNF has re -
claimed the land of Israel by
draining swamps, establishing
vast forests — 160 million trees
planted — preparing land for
farms and orchards, building over
3,100 miles of roads and high-
ways, developing recreational,
parks and protecting the restored
ecological balance.
The "Tree of Life" Award is'
given in rcognition of outstanding
community involvement and
dedication to the cause of peace
and the security of human life.

Federation Apts. election set

The Jewish Federation Apart-
ments will hold its 1984 annual
meeting and dinner at 7 p.m. Oct.
24 at the Jewish Federation
Apartments, President Sheldon
P. Winkelman announced.
Election of directors to board
will take place and the annual re-
ports will be given by Winkelman,
the chairmen of committees and
the Executive Director, Helen
Naimark. The nominating com-
mittee, consisting of William Av-
runin, Rose L. Greenberg, Bess
Krolik, Jack Robinson and Shel-
don Winkelman, presented the
nominations as follows:
New candidates for a three-year
term are: Carol Sue Coden, Sylvia
Jaffe, Margery Krasnick, Rose
Roth; and nominated for an addi-
tional three-year term are: Doris
August, William Avrunin, Gerald
Brody, Tillie Brandwine, Neil
Satovsky.
In accordance with the by-laws
other persons may be nominated
by petition signed by not less than
50 members of the corporation
and filed with Mrs. Naimark not
less than ten days prior to the date
of the annual meeting.
Only one person may be nomi-
nated in each petition and no
nomination shall be valid unless
the nominee shall have consented
to be a candidate.
Membership in the Jewish Fed-
eration Apartments shall consist
of those individuals who have
made a contribution to the most
recently completed Allied Jewish
Campaign-Israel Emergency
Fund. In addition, any person in-

terested in the purposes - of the
Jewish Federation Apartments
and desirous of becoming
member may submit an applica-
tion for membership to the board
of directors.
The board of directors may
admit such person to membership
upon the affirmative vote of two-
thirds of the directors of the corpo-
ration.

Immunization clinics
scheduled in
Oakland County

The Oakland County Health
Division will offer an immuniza-
tion clinic for Farmington and
surrounding areas at the Ten Mile
Community School in Far-
mington, Wednesday, 9 a.m. to
noon.
Immunizations for measles,
German measles, mumps, polio,
diphtheria, tetanus, and whoop-
ing cough will be available.
A parent or legal guardian
must accompany a child under 18
years of age and should bring any
previous records of immuniza-_
tions, including notices which`
might have been sent home by the
child's school pertaining to im-
munizations.
Immunizations will be given at
the same time and location on the
second Wednesday of every other
month. The next scheduled im
munization clinic will be Dec. 12.
