Pilfering of supplies
is $250 million
headache for IDF

Tel Aviv (JTA) — The Israel
Defense Force this week began a
month-long campaign to retrieve
an estimated $250 million worth
of military equipment reported
missing and believed to be in the
hands of civilians and army re-
servists.
For the next month no discipli-
nary measures will be taken
under a special "amnesty"
granted to any person turning
over to army bases or civilian
police stations any military
equipment in their possession.
After that time, anyone found in
illegal possession of army equip-
ment will be severely punished,
according to the IDF.
The items covered by the am-
nesty include clothing, arms,
ammunition and other military
equipment including binoculars.
- According to the IDF, equipment
missing from their stores includes
300 Galil rifles, 200 M-16s, seven
bazookas, 45 light mortars, and
two .50-caliber machine guns.
Clothing items include 300,000
sets of IDF work fatigues, 24,000
sets of fireproof overalls, 44,000
mattresses, 11,000 metal cots,
and large quantities of blankets
and sleeping bags.

Nazi propaganda
video cassettes
flooding Germany

Bonn (JTA) — Video cassettes
of propaganda films made during
the Nazi era are flooding the West
German market. But the
authorities say little can be done
about it because the shops retail-
ing the material insist it is only
fpr the purpose of "scientific re-
search."
The police are trying to trace
the individuals or organizations
responsible for the cassettes, so
far without success. One police of-
ficial said the films contain subtle
disinformation about Jews and, in
his opinion, are more dangerous
than direct anti-Semitic prop-
-aganda.
The cassettes are referred to in
> the annual report just released by
Heinz Galinsky, chairman of the
Jewish Community of West Be-
, rlin. He said they include the Nazi
film collection of Hitler's mis-
tress, Eva Braun, who wed the
Fuehrer just before their double
suicide in the Chancellory bunker
in 1945. This collection is being
offered openly for sale, with the
buyers asked only to sign a corn-
r mitment not to exhibit them pub-
licly, Galinski said.
