We wish to urge the community
to take advantage of the Mitzva
of Lulav and Esrog on the ap-
proaching Succos holidays. It
has been one of the proud fea-
tures of our community that our
dealers of these Israeli Lulavirn
and Esrogim (etc.), have main-
tained a stable price of these
items allowing them to be af-
fordable to every Jewish family.
The Vaad Harrabonim calls upon
all of these dealers to maintain
that practice.

According to Jewish Law one
may not take advantage of this
seasonal demand to fulfill the
mitzva of "Arba Minim."

Brazilian rejects
ADL assertion of
local PLO office

, Rio de Janeiro (JTA) — There is
no truth to reports that the Pales-
tine Liberation Organization has
been allowed to open an office in
Brasilia, the nation's capital, a
source associated with the Con-
federation of Brazilian Jews said
last week.
The source rejected the state-
ment by a spokesman for the
Anti-Defamation League of B'nai
B'rith (ADL) in New York who
"deplored" the Brazilian govern-
ment for "giving in" to political
and economic pressure by Arab
states to authorize a PLO office in
Brasilia.
This is not true, the Jewish con-
federation source said. He ex-
plained that the PLO presence for
the past few years has been con-
fined to a desk in the office of the
Arab League in Brasilia. Con-
trary to the ADL's claim, all ef-
forts by PLO leaders to open an
independent office in the capital
were frustrated by the Brazilian
authorities, the source said.
Meanwhile, Zionist unity has
been reestablished in Brazil after
seven years of bitter quarreling
between the various factions of
that movement.
Last month's convention of the
Zionist Organization of Brazil in
Sao Paulo ended with the election
of a united national executive
council representing all zionist
groups. It was made possible by
the return of Herut and the Gen-
eral Zionists to the Zionist organ-
ization which they had left in
1977.
Boris Blinder, director of the
I.L. Peretz School in Sao Paulo, is
the newly elected president of the
Brazilian Zionist Organization.

California measure
to protect observant
Jews on autopsies

New York (JTA) — A bill to pro-
tect observant Jews in California
against autopsies and other
Jewishly-unacceptable post-
mortem procedures was signed
into law Sunday night by Gover-
nor George Deukmejian.
The California measure is the
third such law in the United
States, according to Agudath Is-
rael of America. The first state to
enact such a measure was New
York and the second New Jersey.
The California law establishes
procedures whereby persons 18
years of age or older can execute a
"certificate of religious belief,"
stating their religious opposition
to post-mortem procedures. If,
upon such a person's death, a rela-
tive or friend notifies the coroner
for the area that the dead person
had executed a certificate of reli-
gious opposition, and produces the
certificate within 48 hours after
informing the coroner, the
coroner may not perform the
post-mortem procedure.

Exceptions applying in the
three states permit the medical
examiner to proceed with an au-
topsy if there is a suspected or
known homicide, or a suspected or
known public health hazard, such
as a communicable disease, in-
volved in the death.
