impractical, according to school
board member Bruce Saunders,
since many of the students are
bussed to and from the schools.
Robert Miller, Tri-County
school superintendent, said that
the board would abide by the
judge's ruling. No decision has
been made about whether to ap-
peal the court order, Miller said.

A federal judge in Kalamazoo
has ruled that Bible club meet-
ings at a pair of western Michigan
elementary schools violate the
First Amendment to the United
States Constitution.
U.S. District Judge Richard
Enslen, acting on a lawsuit filed
by Michigan Attorney General
Frank Kelley, issued an injunc-
tion. Monday against the lunch-
hour Bible club meetings at the
Sand Lake and McNaughton
elementary schools in the Tri-
County School District, about 30
miles north of Grand Rapids.
Officials at the schools argued,
in part, that the suit pitted con-
