87 THE DETROIT JEWISH NEWS Friday, September 21, 1984 111111116P5WW111111111 Twinning slated at Shaarey Zedek Elizabeth Adelman, daughter of Joel and Judith Adelman, and Robyne Meyers, daughter of Ronald and Rena Meyers, will twin the observance of their b'not mitzvah celebration with a Rus- sian Jew at Cong. Shaarey Zedek on Saturday. They will be celeb- rating with Jane Shtaingardt, daughter of Ilya and Isaballa Shtaingardt, who will mark the occasion in absentia. Jane is able to study Torah in Russian. She is proud of her Jewishness. Her father is an engineer and her mother an endocrinologist. The family first applied to emi- grate to Israel six years ago. They were refused, based on the father's alleged access to state secrets. The family is able to maintain minimal contact with Westerners, and they have rela- tives both in Israel and America. Twin b'not mitzvah Jennifer Boodin and Irit Houv- ras will twin the observance of their b'not mitzvah celebration Saturday at Adat Shalom Synagogue with Pavia Kun, daughter of Boris and Gedi Kun of Moscow, USSR. The Kuns are presently unem- ployed. They have been taking menial jobs but are fired when it becomes known that they wish to emigrate. Kun resigned his job as an air- craft engineer before he applied to emigrate. He knew he would be refused permission to leave on the grounds of possessing secret in- formation. The Kun family was given per- mission to emigrate in 1973. Friends of the Kuns are afraid to see them, because the friends could be fired from their jobs too. Mrs. Kun speaks Yiddish and is studying English. Pavia plays the piano. They would like tourists to visit them, and to receive letters from the West.
