Attorneys co-chair program
on guardian ad !items with NCJW
Oakland County Circuit Court
Judge Fred M. Mester announces
that Richard S. Victor and Sue
Ann Canvasser have been named
as co-chairmen for purposes of
creating a guardian ad litem
training progam in conjunction
with the National Council of
Jewish Women.
This training program will be
presented to special CASA (court
appointed special advocates)
workers affiliated with the
NCJW. They are part of a public
affairs/community service project
and have had extensive experi-
ence in the Oakland County
Juvenile Court and will now be
serving as guardian ad litem
trainees for Judge Mester at the
Circuit Court level.
The training program consists
of educational programs pre-
sented to the CASA workers in-
cluding the role of the guardian ad
litem, substantive law of divorce/
custody, divorce procedures and
interviewing procedures for
guardian ad litems.
This will be an experimental
program where volunteers in-
volved with the NCJW will act
with attorneys appointed as
guardian ad litems on behalf of
minor children involved in cus-
tody disputes following divorce or
separation.
In addition to Victor and Ms.
Canvasser, Judge Mester has - ap-
pointed attorney Chrysanthe
Sue Ann Canvasser
Richard S. Victor
Kotsis and attorney Carol
Garagiola, to serve on the train-
ing committee.
Campaign telethon slated Oct. 2
I. William Sherr
Allied Jewish Campaign volun-
teers will hold a telethon 6:30 p.m.
Oct. 2 to encourage contributors
to start the New Year right by
paying their 1984 pledges.
Marvin H. Goldman and I.
William Sherr, cash mobilization
chairman, are leading the tele-
thon.
Detroit is one of only 23 Ameri-
can Jewish communities that
sends regular monthly payments
Marvin Goldman
to the United Jewish Appeal, for
distribution among this comuni-
ty's overseas beneficiaries. In this
way, the UJA can be assured of an
even flow of dollars throughout
the year.
During the telethon, the cash
mobilization committee will
encourage contributors to meet
their commitment with im-
mediate payments.
