STRICTLY KOSHER MEAT MARKET

) Freedom Run
for Soviet Jewry

13831 W. 9 Mile Rd., Oak Park 543-7092
GLATT KOSHER MEATS

(at reasonable prices)

Rabbi Norman T. Roman of
Temple Beth El will describe his
experience of meeting last year
with Soviet Jewish refuseniks at
this year's six-mile Freedom Run
for Soviet Jewry to be held Sun-
day at the main Jewish Commu-
nity Center at 9 a.m.
Co-sponsor of the run, which is
designed as part of the Jewish
Community Council's Detroit
Soviet Jewry Comittee (DSJC)
year-round awareness activity, is
the Jewish Community Center's
Runners Club. Runners of all ages
and levels are invited. There is an
entry fee. T-shirts will be distrib-
uted to all registered participants
in the run. Registration will be
accepted at the starting line.
Those gathered will join, at the
close of the run, in the planting of
a Freedom Grove at the Center
honoring bar-bat mitzvah twin-
ning program participants. The
twinning program was launched
by the DSJC as a method to main-
tain solidarity with Soviet Jews
and call attention to their plight.
For information on the run or
the bar-bat mitzvah twinning
program, call the DSJC, 962-
1880.
The DSJC has prepared and
distributed Jewish New Year
cards to be sent to Soviet Jewish
refuseniks, particularly Evgeny
Yakir and Viktor Brailovsky.
The cards contain a calendar of
Jewish holidays, a Russian-
Hebrew alphabet, a drawing of
Jerusalem and the New Year
greeting: "L'Shanah Tovah
Tikatevu — From the Jews of the
U.S.A. to the Jews of the USSR,
Happy New Year. We have not
forgotten you and we will not
forget you."
Joel Gershenson, chairman,
and Jerry Rogers, associate
chairman, said "Rosh Hashanah
cards sent to Soviet Jews offer a
New Year greeting and serve as
an expression of our support for
their struggle. The cards alert
Soviet authorities to the fact that
the American Jewish community
will not rest as long as Jews are
persecuted in the USSR and de-
nied the right to emigrate."
Additional cards are available
in limited quantities from the
DSJC, 962-1880.
