Jerusalem (JTA) - President
Hosni Mubarak of Egypt sent a
message to Shimon Peres, coil-
gratulating him on becoming
Premier of Israel and reportedly
urging Israel to take "decisions
that will remove obstacles on the
path of the peace process."
The message was conveyed to
Peres on Tuesday by the Egyptian
Charge d' Affaires, Mohammed
Bassiouni. The latter, who is the
ranking Egyptian diplomat in Is-
rael since Cairo recalled its Am-
bassador two years ago, told re-
porters after his meeting with
Peres that Egypt required three
conditions for thawing its "cold
peace" with Israel.
He said these were the with-
drawal of Israeli forces from
Lebanon; improvement in Israel's
relations with the Palestinians
living under its "occupation"; and
resumption of negotiations over
Taba, a disputed strip of land on
the Israeli-Egyptian border near
Eilat.

Officer killed
in S. Lebanon

Tel Aviv (JTA) - Israel De-
fense Force 'reserve Lt. Col. Yair
Zinner, 30, who was wounded in
south Lebanon, died of his wounds
last week. Israel Radio said his
death brought IDF casualties in
Lebanon since the war began in
June 1982 to 594 dead and nearly
4,000 wounded. Zinner, of Rishon
Le Zion, was wounded when the
jeep in which he was travelling hit
a mine.
An IDF patrol wounded a resi-
dent of a Shiite village near Tyre
when they opened fire on a group
of men who failed to halt when
ordered to do so. The men, repor-
tedly acting in a suspicious man-
ner, were discovered during a
routine patrol through the narrow
streets of the village.
Light arms fire was directed at
a South Lebanon Army patrol in
Jabba village north of Nabatiya,
but there were no casualties. It
was the third such attack last
week.

St. Louis Federation

reach Committee of the St. Louis
Jewish Federation, created to
make contact with Jewish indi-
viduals and families new to St.
Louis, has reached more than 800
new households.
