Seniors trip set

The senior adult department of
the Jewish Community Center at
the Jimmy Prentis Morris Branch
invites the public to join its mem-
bers on two kosher trips to Miami
Beach, Fla., it is scheduling.
The first trip will leave Detroit
Jan. 15 and return Feb. 14. Based
on double occupancy, cost of the
trips includes round-trip air fare
from Detroit, transportation to
and from the JPM Branch,
round-trip transfers to Miami
Airport, two kosher meals daily at
the Saxony Hotel, all taxes and
gratuities and a get-acquainted
dinner upon arrival.
The second trip leaves Feb. 14
and returns March 14, and in-
cludes the same arrangements.
All senior adults and the public
are invited. A $400 deposit is re-
quired, with final payment due 45
days prior to departure.
The trip is co-sponsored by the
Jewish Center and Jules Doneson
Travel Agency, Inc. Checks
should be made payable to the
Doneson agency.
Reservation deadline for the
January trip is Dec. 3. Deadline
for the February trip is Jan. 2.

House speaker sees
austerity as top
challenge for Israel

Boston (JTA) — Rep. Thomas
O'Neill (D-Mass.), speaker of the
House, said that the challenge to
the new government of Israel will
be "to accomplish austerity with-
out weakening the country's de-
fenses and without tattering the
basic fabric of a decent and com-
passionate society."
"The goals of the new unity
government are clear," he told the
more than 500 leaders from the
United States and Canada attend-
ing the 1984 Israel Bond national
leadership conference in Boston.
The goals, O'Neill said, are "sus-
tainable economic improvement;
realistic but improved living
standards on all levels of Israeli
society; and, most important, pro-
gress in securing peace and secu-
rity not only for the State of Israel,
but for the entire region, so that
cooperation and prosperity can
displace the mistrust and hostil-
