snuffs out a candle before heading
for the wings, until the au-
ditorium is engulfed in darkness.

ufactured patriotism, when
Olympic athletes jog around the
track waving an American flag
because it makes "good televi-
sion" and political candidates tell
us we can still have the American
dream, but only if we punch out
the ballot in the space where their
name appears, Musical Passage
offers a dose of the genuine arti-
cle, from a group of people dedi-
cated to their art and their coun-
try, though most of them aren't
even citizens yet.
The Detroit Film Theater will
present "Musical Passage" at 7
and 9:30 p.m. today and 7 and
.9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Detroit

Border fence
is torn down

Tel Aviv (JTA) — A fence on the
Israel-Lebanon border which
army sources said had been
erected to keep cattle from in-
fected herds in Lebanon from
straying into Israel and to
obstruct illegal crossings over the
border has been pulled down, Is-
raeli journalists report.
South Lebanon Army Com-
mander Gen. Antoine Lahad re-
portedly complained that con-
struction of the fence could be con-
strued as a political act. Lebanese
cources had complained that the
fence had been put up as part of
Israeli plans to divert the Waz-
zani stream into Israel. But Is-
raelis say the Wazzani flows
naturally into Israel and there is
no need to divert its waters.
The fence was apparently a
local affair, built upon orders of a
local IDF commander without
consultations with the Chief of
Staff or the Ministry of Defense. A
United Nations investigating
team recently found that
Lebanese complaints about water
diversion in the area were un-
founded.

Nuclear holocaust
prevention urged

Philadelphia — A group of 150
rabbis, scientists and Jewish
communal leaders has issued a
statement urging Jews to "take
action to prevent the death of all
humanity in a world-wide nuclear
holocaust."
The statement, issued last week
under the auspices of the Shalom
Center in Philadelphia, also made.
reference to the election cam-
paign currently under way in the
United States. "At every level of
our election process, and to every
candidate, we must raise the
question: How do yca int:nd to
prevent a nuclear holocaust'?"
