Fri. & Sat. til 4 a.m.

17th annual Detroit Blues Festi-
val is held Sept. 28-30 at Univer-
sity of Detroit on W. McNichols
. . . beginning 12 noon each day
. . . It's sponsored by Metro Arts
and Detroit Federation of Musi-
cians . . . There's no charge .. .
Last year, the Blues Festival was
at State Fairgrounds . . . and all
previous ones in Hart Plaza.
PLAQUE HAS BEEN re-
ceived by Ginopolis', Middlebelt
and 12 Mile, from Playboy Maga-
zine . . . as One of America's Best
Singles Bars" . . . Neither owner,
John or Pete Ginopolis, knows
how they were chosen . . . not a
"pick-up" spot . . . and a dress code
is adhered to . . . which no doubt
was one of the keys for Playboy's
selection.
It's always jam-packed with ac-
tion . . . 8,000 square feet of very
well run, very clean and choice
decoration . . . People from all
walks of life come to have good,
clean fun in a fine atmosphere.
While there recently, I had a
hamburger which has to rate with
the better ones . . . delicious and
cooked medium rare exactly as I
like them . . . The large kitchen at
Ginopolis' is spotless . . . built
with more room than people
would imagine . . . There's a huge
storage area . . . and lower level
with walk-in freezer amidst oo-
dles and oodles of room.
When Johnny and Peter
Ginopolis built the new locale "in
spot" that opened December of
1982, they never dreamed it
would be so very successful .. .
Over $1 million was spent, includ-
ing $150,000 for a masterpiece
solid oak bar . . . In fact, every-
thing is either oak or brass .. .
plus 37 large brown lampshades
over all tables and booths . . . huge
glass shades on corners of dance
floor are surrounded by beauti-
fully sculptured oak and brass.
To go along with its successful
11-to-3 Sunday brunch, Ginopolis'
has added a Sunday Feast all-
you-can-eat buffet, 4-9.
Yes, that bar cost $150,000 .. .
but Johnny, and Pete wanted the
most lavish they could get .. .
After all, above this bar in gold
leaf lettering is the name of their
late dad, George Ginopolis .. . His
pictue is on the wall as people
leave, as if to say, "Thanks for
coming. Hope you had a good
time."
Look closely enough and you
might see a special smile on Baba
George's face . . . Sons John and
Pete are doing a wonderful job
perpetuating the Ginopolis name
and reputation George stood for
with wife Florence.
HOW DO PEOPLE get
started in show business? . . . This
oft-asked question most times
brings strange answers . . . Comic
impressionist Mendi Segal, with a
B.A. degree in journalism from
Wayne State University, got his
start as a child . . . While in
elementary school, Mendi would
tease the other children by very
convincingly impersonating the
voice of one or more teachers .. .
As a teenager, the break of so
many came from winning a talent
contest.
Clever comic impressionist
Mendi Segal will appear, Sept.
19-20, 9 p.m. . . . Sept. 21-22, 8:30

p.m. and 11 p.m. .. at Comedy
Castle, North Woodward, near 14
Mile.
Personable and very talented
localite, Mendi performs vocal
impressions of nearly 70 famous
personalities . . . including char-
acters and local media per-
sonalities . . . He also does about
20 character voices and dialects.
Mendi doesn't only do club
dates . . . he's become quite a favo-.
rite for parties, too.
SINGLE FOLKS looking for
the right clubs to join can check
out a dozen or more in one place
. . . without charge or obligation
. . . at Kingsley Inn, N. Woodward
just south of Long Lake Rd. .. .
this Tuesday . . . the first day of
National Singles Week.
It's called "Singles, Meet Your
Clubs," from 6 to 9 p.m. . . . with a
multi-purpose . . . to help singles
find a club easily, and to help the
clubs recruit new membes.
It'll be held in Kingsley Inn's
Athenian Room . . . with approx-
imately a dozen clubs and services
represented . . . each having its
own table to display brochures,
activity flyers, photos of their
events, banners, etc.
National Singles Week, Sept.
16-22, listed in Chase's Annual
Events 1984, was started by the
Buckeye Singles Council of Col-
umbus, Ohio . . . to promote a pos-
itive image of being single . . . and
to help non-profit singles groups
publicize their activities plus re-
cruit members.
ALSO FOR SINGLES . . . is
every Wednesday evening . . . at
Dimitri's Wildflower, Walnut and
Drake . . . where the no-charge
parties include hors d'oeuvres,
and trio for dancing in a beautiful
atmosphere.
THE MYSTERY MUNCHER
WRITES . . . "You're in for a
gourmet treat at one of the best
values in town when you dine at
the elegant Jacques on Telegraph,
north of 12 Mile, in the Bingham
Office Plaza.
"What Jacques proudly bills as
`The Perfect Evening' of lobster,
wine and roses can be enjoyed
Monday through Thursday for the
hardly-believable moderate price
of $12.95.
"Vicki, our professional, pleas-
ant and oh-so-helpful waitperson,
brought a cart to our table with
wines from Jacques private re-
serves and a complimentary glass
of our choice.
"It was indeed a night of wine
and roses, each female guest re-
ceiving a long-stemmed beauty.
"Vicki then prepared our house
salad tableside. It's called spin-
ning salad tossed with bib,
romaine, spinach and endive,
mushrooms, diced cucumber,
chopped egg, alfalfa sprouts, to-
matoes and feta cheese. The de-
licious house salad dressing is
sour cream based with cucumber
and dill seasonings.
"We decided to splurge so or-
dered Escargot Chabliscienne,
tender snails smothered in garlic
butter and white wine and served
on a French Bagette.
"Vicki cracked our succulent
Maine lobster with expertise so it
was no struggle to eat. The lobster
was so tender it veritably melted
in our mouth. Hot rolls and a veg-

etable du jour topped off our excel-
lent dinner.
"Vicki wheeled another cart
over to our table with such a large
variety of super desserts that we
were tempted. It was tough decid-
ing between the gourmet apple
pie, cheese cake and chocolate
mousse cake, but we chose the lat-
ter.
"The decor at Jacques is condu-
cive to an experience in fine din-
ing. The restaurant is done in
black with floral designs of rust,
beige and white. The atrium out-
side is an eye-appealing addition.
"Jacques offers a surf 'n turf
clambake from 6-10 p.m. Fridays.
This includes a live Maine lobster,
choice of filet or New York strip
plus all-you-can-eat shrimp, crab
legs, clams, clam chowder, oysters
on the half-shell, mussels, and
barbequed chicken or ribs. If this
isn't enough of a 'pig out' you also
get redskin potatoes, corn on the
cob and a variety of salads. The
price is $24.95 per person.
"The regular menu at Jacques
