New head of religious school appointed at Temple Israel Temple Israel of West Bloom- field will begin the new school year this weekend with a new di- rector of religious education. He is Joseph A. Poisson, who comes here from Buffalo, N.Y., after serving Temple Beth Zion in a similar capacity. At Temple Israel, Poisson also will participate with the temple's adult education committee in planning programs, including the continuation of the bar/bat mitzvah program for adults, which last year graduated 43 people from its two-year course of study. Born in Berlin, Germany, Pois- son immigrated to Israel with his family at the age of 2, receiving Ms secular and religious educa- tion there. He came to the United States in 1962. Poisson holds a degree in eco- nomics from Tel Aviv University from which he graduated in 1960, and from Dropsie College. He also did advance degree work at Gratz College and People's University. He also holds licenses as a school principal from the Ameri- can Association for Jewish Educa- tion and from the Union of Ameri- can Hebrew Congregations.
