Jazz flutist Alexander Zonjic is on Wednesdays, Sept. 5 through 26. MAIL DEPT.... "Many thanks for your valued and informative column in which you assess the many dining establishments in the Greater Metro Detroit area. It is a welcome boon to those of us who do most of our dining out. Your nam- ing waiters and waitresses who are especially efficient and kind is a plus factor in making dining out a pleas- ant experience. It is amaz- ing how many non-smiling and surly serving profes- sional people there are around. These persons tend to turn one off from patronizing an otherwise really good restaurant. "It is a joy to be served by a person with a ready smile and helpful suggestions to assist one in making menu selections. "I have learned that where the owner, hos- tess or manager 'run a tight ship' the service is most times above par." - Harry J. Gunsberg "P.S. 'wonder if any of your readers were members of the January 1928 graduating class of College High School which was es- tablished for just a few years in the old building on Cass Avenue when Central High moved to new quarters on Linwood?" EVER HAVE a hanker- ing to sing that ringing bar- bershop harmony on the "good old songs?" . If so, you're invited to attend fall open house of Motor City Chorus, 8 p.m. Sept. 10, Westminister Presbyterian Church. Outer Drive at Hubbell in Detroit. The chorus is part of De- troit No. 1 Chapter of Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop'Quartet Sing- ing in America . . . It was the first official S.P.E .B.S. Q.S.A. chapter east of the Mississippi. Visitors to the open house will be invited to "sing along," and can even stand-, in with the chorus on the "risers" if they like, in sing- ing that famous four-part barbershop harmony. There is no admission or refreshment charge at the open house. , Art association offers 12-week fall schedule The Birmingham Bloom- field Art Association intro- duces a new, 12-week term with its 1984 fall schedule of classes and workshops. The expanded program is of- fered in response to requests from former students who have expressed an interest in having the opportunity to do more extensive study with popular Art Associa- tion instructors. There is also a variety of 10, six and five week classes as well as one, two, and three day workshops avail- able for enrollment. For a free schedule with registration information and full class listings, call the BBAA office, 644-0866 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and Saturdays after Labor Day.
