Kahane also announced his intention last week to stop the MKs from getting into the prison. The parliamentarians contended that their visit to the prison was a right given them under Knesset im- munity and did not have to be coordinated with the prison authorities or the Minister of Police, although they did inform Burg of their intention. Legal experts, however, said Monday that the legal issue was not clear regard- ing whether parliamentary immunity allowed a Knes- set member to enter a prison without prior coordination with the authorities. Most held that MKs appeared to be in error since immunity referred to public places, not to closed institutions such as a prison. Nevertheless, Virshubski said Monday that he and other MKs would visit Tel Teachers asked to stress values of democracy Jerusalem (JTA) — Teachers throughout the country' will be asked to stress to students the na- ture of democratic values, the meaning of tolerance and openness to varying views, and to warn the chil- dren against phenomena which could destroy the re- lations between Jews and Arabs. This was announced here by Education Minister Zevulun Hammer at a meeting with parents. He said •that the, pedagogic secretariat of the Education Ministry has already set up a team which would prepare a special study curriculum in democracy. However, Hammer added, until that program is ready, teachers will be asked at the begin- ning of the school year to devote time to this issue. Mond Prison and the Ramle prison where Arab and other security prisoners are held to compare the condi- tions of incarceration.,This time the visits have been coordinated with the proper authorities and the date for their inspection has been fixed by Burg and the prison administrations. Burg again repeated his charge Monday that the four MKs were engaged in a political and public rela- tions ploy by trying to get into Tel Mond Prison Sun- day without having coordi- nated their visit with the authorities. Burg also said he was still awaiting a full report from the police and would give a detailed report to Abba Eban, acting Knes- set speaker, as requested by him. When the four MKs- ar- rived at the Tel Mond Prison they were sur- rounded by between 20 and 30 Kahane supporters, many of them wearing yel- low shirts with the Kach emblem on them. Among the demonstrators was the family of an Israel Defense Force soldier who was killed by terrorists in the West Bank two weeks ago. The PLO claimed responsibility for the murder. Demonstrators pummel- led and.cursed the MKs and yelled "terrorists," "PLO lovers," "We will smash in your faces . . . We will break your legs." Police denied that any physical violence had taken place. Prison guards behind the gates stood by passively as the MKs were being pummel- led. After a half hour of tumult the Sharon district police deputy inspector, Kalman Bernstein, arrived. He later told Israel Radio that. he had plainclothes policemen in the crowd and had arrived as soon as he thought police reinforce- ments were warranted. Israeli warplanes strike Lebanese terrorist• base Tel Aviv (JTA) — Israeli warplanes hit a terrorist base near Majdel Anjar in east Lebanon Tuesday, an army spokesman reported. The planes destroyed build- ings at the base in the Bekaa Valley that was op- erated by Palestinian rebel leader Abu Musa. All Is- raeli aircraft returned safely to their base. The army spokesman said the base had been Used as 'a departure point for attacks by terrorists operating from behind Syrian lines in east Lebanon. Another base used by the Abu Musa ter- rorists was bombed Aug. 16 after their leader claimed responsibility for a thwarted car-bombing at- tempt in Jerusalem. Tuesday's attack followed reports that three Israel De- fense Force soldiers were wounded in south Lebanon within a 24 hour span. One was wounded Tuesday when a roadside explosion was set off as a conoy passed by on a road west of the Ansar detention camp. Two other soldiers were wounded Monday in a clash with a terrorist band north- east of Tyre. Both incidents occurred in the area known as the "iron triangle" which is in- habited by Shiite Moslems who have carried out many attacks on the IDF in recent weeks. In a search of the area, IDF soldiers found a large cache of arms, includ- ing Katyusha rockets, mis- siles and rocket-propelled grenades. The IDF instituted new security arrangements at the Awali River crossing in this region, including a "terminal building" where passengers and vehicles are searched, to reduce the amount of arms smuggling between the north and south - of Lebanon. The bridge, which had been closed last week, has now been reopened, and delays at the crossing point have been reduced from three or four days to about three hours. , Prominent Jewish scientist freed from Morocco prison Paris — A Jewish mathe- gion, many prominent matician, imprisoned in French and Moroccan Jews Morocco, was set free have regularly interceded last Saturday after hav- on his behalf.
